    • from the Prayer Vine: Pray for director Burton Buller as he leads the Mennonite Media team responding to new calls to use media in church ministry. Ask God for wisdom and creativity both in production and stretching budgets.

Virginia Conference, Mennonite Church USA

SAM HORST, Professor Emeritus of History at EMU, will share his “story” on Monday, November 14, at 7:30 a.m., in the West Dining Room of EMU.


DR. CHRIS MARSHALL will speak on "For God's Sake! Terrorism, Religious Violence & Restorative Justice" in the Science Center room 104 at EMU on Monday, November 14, at 3:45 p.m. For more information call 432-4463.


EASTERN MENNONITE SCHOOLS. Students and parents who are interested in learning more about EMHS and EMMS can attend the Open House on November 15. Contact Jean Fisher at 432-4521 or fisherj@emhs.net to make arrangements.


THE VMRC AUXILIARY ANNUAL BAKE SALE will be held on Saturday, November 19, at Park Gables Main Street. Baked items are needed for this fund raising event: homemade breads, pies (no cream pies), cinnamon buns, and cookies. Baked items may be brought to the Park Gables reception area on Friday afternoon, November 18.


HISTORIC HOUSE TOUR. The Bounty of Hearth and Heritage tour will be Saturday, November 19, 10 a.m.—3 p.m. It will feature four homes in the Broadway area built in 1794, 1832, 1853, and 1867, and will also include refreshments at the Linville Creek Church of the Brethren.


GEORGE FRIDERIC HANDEL’S “MESSIAH” will be performed in EMU’s Lehman Auditorium on Saturday, November 19, at 7 p.m. Messiah will feature the Chamber Singers, University Chorale, and University Orchestra, conducted by Ken Nafziger. Soloists in this performance will include Katie Derstine and Matthew Hunsberger, both of whom attend Zion. A $10 suggested donation will benefit the EMU Music Scholarship Fund and the Mennonite Disaster Service Hurricane Relief Fund.


AN ALBANIAN FESTIVAL, celebrating the ministries of Allen Umble & Norma Teles, will be on Saturday, November 19, at 4:00 p.m. at Park View Mennonite Church. For more information call Ken Horst or Eva Eberly at 434-9727.


VMC YOUTH OFFICE is accepting applications for the new Youth Leadership Cabinet. The application deadline is December 1, 2005. This committee will be assisting in planning and implementing future youth events and retreats. For more information, visit the Conference web site at vmconf.org/youth/.


YOUTH WORK FOR DUMMIES, the annual youth workers retreat, January 20—22, 2006, will be in Williamsburg, VA. Glen Guyton, youth minister at Calvary Community Church will be the speaker. The cost is $125/person (double occupancy) when you register by Jan. 1, 2006. For more information, refer to the brochure included in the Growing Leaders packet.


EMHS HOST FAMILIES NEEDED. EMHS is urgently seeking homes for two students: one already enrolled and one who has applied to come in January. Host families are paid $317 each month by the school. Students supply their own personal items and eat lunch at school. Please contact Jean Fisher for more information at 432-4521 or fisherj@emhs.net


MCC'S SALT DEADLINE is February 15, 2006. SALT (Serve and Learn Together) is a one-year cross-cultural living and service experience for young adults aged 18-27, sponsored by MCC. Assignments are available in the Caribbean, Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, Europe, and Asia. For more information, see www.mcc.org/vep/salt/index.html.
