Welcome to all who join us for worship today. May you experience God’s peace and joy as we worship and fellowship together. If you are a visitor with us, we invite you to fill out a visitor card found on the back of the pew so that we may know you better. Please place the visitor card in the offering basket or hand it to one of the ushers.

SING THE JOURNEY: January 15, from 6:30—8 p.m, come to EMS Auditorium to enjoy an evening of singing led by Ken Nafziger, professor of music at EMU, and composer Jim Clemens. If you have Sing the Journey, the new hymnal supplement, please bring your copy. If not, hymnal supplements will be available for use, courtesy of Community Mennonite Church & Eastern Mennonite University. Childcare will be provided for children ages 0-7. This event—sponsored by Virginia Mennonite Conference, Eastern Mennonite School, & the Mission Endowment Fund—is free and open to the public. IT’S TIME FOR NEW STUDENTS TO APPLY! If you know of anyone who is thinking of coming to Eastern Mennonite School in elementary, middle, or high school, encourage them to apply now. For more information, contact Jean Fisher at 432-4521 or fisherj@emhs.net. A FREE SEMINAR ON MEDIA AND CHILDREN led by Harvey Yoder of FLRC and Larry Heatwole of Computer Works will be held at the Family Life Resource Center on Monday, January 23 from 7—8:30 p.m. For more information or to register, call 434-8450. RESOURCES FOR YOUTH & ADULT CLASSES: As you plan programs for Sunday School or other events, consider students and faculty of The Center for Justice & Peacebuilding at EMU. This spring there are graduate students from Afghanistan, India, Nepal, Indonesia, Kenya, Sierra Leone, and Rwanda. They welcome opportunities to share their studies in peace and restorative justice. Contact Margaret Foth at fothm@emu.edu for more information. ADULT WINTER BIBLE SCHOOL, focusing on Revelation, will be held on Sunday evenings from January 22—March 5 (except February 5) at 6:30 p.m. in EMS Auditorium. Teacher Duane Yoder will explore the first century context in which Revelation was written, and how the risen Christ calls the suffering church to faithfulness and victory in the face of extreme persecution. Don’t miss this opportunity to gain a new understanding of this fascinating, but often misunderstood, book. Matt Hunsberger and others will lead hymns from Sing the Journey each night before the Bible teaching. Adult Winter Bible School is sponsored by VMC, Mission Endowment Fund, Park View Federal Credit Union, Eastern Mennonite School, & Lindale Mennonite Church. Adult Winter Bible School is free; reservations are not needed. Contact Steve Carpenter at steve.carpenter@vmconf.org for more information. A POSITIVE PARENTING CLASS led by Harvey Yoder will be held at Family Life Resource Center on five Mondays, 7—8:30 p.m, beginning January 30. The cost is $35, or $60 for two persons from the same household. The text, Common Sense Parenting, is available for $13. For more information or to register, call 434-8450. TO KNOT, OR NOT TO KNOT? is a seminar for dating (but not engaged) couples led by a panel made up of an experienced married couple, a recently married couple, and a divorced person. This group will meet in EMU's University Commons, Room 211, on Sunday, February 5 from 2—4:30 p.m. To Knot Or Not To Knot? is sponsored by the Family Life Resource Center; it is free to EMU students, or $10 for other couples. Register by calling 434-8450. MARK YOUR CALENDARS NOW! Children and adults alike will enjoy the Hunt Family Fiddlers as they perform lively Irish dances and fiddle music. See this amazing family of 9 members on Sunday, February 5 at 4 p.m. in the EMS Auditorium. There is no admission charge; an offering will benefit New Bridges & Norma Teles’ Gypsy ministry. |
