COME CHANGE YOUR WORLD! Service Adventure is looking for young adults (ages 17-20), who are interested in spending 10 ˝ months serving in another community. Participants serve with community-based organizations in eight locations across the United States while living together in a household with a unit leader. SEEKING PEACE IN CONGO is an event that will occur Raleigh Mennonite Church (1116 Blount Street, Raleigh, Nc 27604) on June 10 at 7 p.m. Come learn about Congo! Tresor Medju will share his story of working for peace in his country; attendees will learn ways to help promote peace in Congo. Congolese snacks and relevant children’s activities will be provided. Donations will be taken to help refugees. VMC “FAMILY REUNION: The “family reunion” of the Virginia Mennonite Conference will be held July 6—9 on the EMU campus. Make plans to attend this gathering with more than 20 international guests as the theme of “Sent! Around the World: a New Perspective on Mission” is addressed in evening worship, Bible studies, World Neighbors festival, and children’s activities. GATHER ‘ROUND TRAINING will be hosted by Huntington Mennonite Church (785 Harpersville Road, Newport News, Va 23601) on June 10 from 10:30 a.m.—1:30 p.m. A light lunch is included. Learn more about the new Gather ‘Round curriculum by exploring the biblical foundations and format of the curriculum and learn how Gather ‘Round seeks to nurture children’s faith formation by strengthening the connection between home and congregation. Learn more about the multi-age and parent/caregiver curriculum, explore activities for multiple intelligences, and (if time allows) participate in a sample session. The annual Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community Auxiliary Business meeting will be held on May 18 at 6:30 p.m. in Detweiler Auditorium on the VMRC campus. MENNONITE CHILDREN'S CHOIR OF LANCASTER will perform at VMRC on May 20 at 7:30 p.m. Directed by EMU graduates Rachel Bucher and Rosemary Siegrist, the 50-voice choir involves singers in grades 5-12 from 20 different congregations in the Lancaster/Lebanon area. Two of these men were from Riverside Mennonite Church in Harman, WV. Early Sunday morning, April 23, Leroy Mallow died with complications related to cardiac arrest. His wife, Teresa, will be responsible for some heavy financial obligations, since Leroy did not have any insurance. Jerry Sabastian seems to be healing okay, but has some complications from pneumonia. Please pray for all affected by this incident. The Riverside congregation has set up a fund to assist Teresa Mallow, as well as Jerry & Jean Sabastian.
