• Praying for our youth, May through August. As you pray for our youth this week, bank on the promise that God has made to them about the future - physically, emotionally, and spiritually. My God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:19) Names for the week of July 2: Drew Shrock and Hannah Stoltzfus.

A FAMILY CONCERT, featuring “Kentucky” T. Dutchersmith & the Rubber Band of Goshen, Indiana, will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, July 3 at Community Mennonite Church. KTD & the RB is a fun, high-energy, family-oriented band. For this concert, the RB will include Harrisonburg locals: the Kris & Kirk Shank Zehr family, the Brian & Linda Martin Burkholder family, & Matt Carlson. Concert cost, payable at the door only, is $3 for adults & $1 for children. For more information, call 433-7855.

THERE IS STILL TIME TO PARTICIPATE in the Paper Doll Project for Assembly Worship. Please contact the conference office if your congregation would like to participate. Each doll should be brought to the basement of Lehman Auditorium by 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 6. An adult or child from your congregation should be prepared to participate in the procession!

VESPERS AT THE CROSSROADS AMPHITHEATER: Experience serenity on Sunday evenings in a lovely woodland setting with music & meditations to inspire you! Services are every week in July & August, from 7 to 7:45 p.m. On July 2, enjoy gospel-bluegrass music by Daphna Creek & meditation by musician/pastor Ben Risser. Jay Hartzler, choir director at EMHS, will lead a hymn sing on July 9. Then, on July 16, experience music by harpist Virginia Bethune & meditation by evangelist Steve Wingfield. WORLD NEIGHBORS MISSIONS FESTIVAL will be held Thursday, July 6, 4—6 p.m. in EMU Commons. Bring your family & JrMYF for sights & sounds from countries around the world.

VMC ASSEMBLY WORSHIP: Help your children see they are part of a large group of God’s people—bring them to the worship service in the EMU Commons on Sunday, July 9. Sing with over 1,000 brothers and sisters from around the world, hear Art McPhee preach, and join in praise and prayer at this large gathering. No registration is needed! Come and worship!

BENEFIT CONCERT FOR LOCAL FOOD BANK: My America ‘A Musical Montage’ will be at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 6 at Staunton Church of the Brethren. This concert, featuring The Ovation Singers, Tommy Crawford, The Retros, Bill & Lorraine Harouff, & The Valley Saxophone Quartet, will benefit the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank Network. A free will offering will be collected in lieu of ticket sales.

THE ANNUAL TEARS AND ASHES BUS TOUR, sponsored by CrossRoads & The Valley Research Associates, is set for Saturday, July 15, 8 a.m—4 p.m, and will cover sites in northwestern Rockingham County. Places of historical interest to Brethren & Mennonites include: Singers Glen, specifically the home of Joseph Funk; the Breneman-Turner Mill, which survived the flames of the Civil War; and the Jacob Wenger & Jacob Geil houses, the latter called a “Union hole.” Other places of interest: Trissels Mennonite Church and a Timberville farm that is rich in Brethren history & ghost stories. The tour will include a skit by Linda Waggy at the Jacob Wenger house, and an impersonation of Brethren Elder John Kline by Larry Glick. The $60 per person fee includes a Mennonite-German meal by local caterers, entertainment by the Rhodes Sisters, & a book with photos and descriptions of the places you visit. Leading the tour will be Norman Wenger & Dave Rodes, researchers and compilers of the book series, Unionists and the Civil War Experience in the Shenandoah Valley. The tour will begin and end at the CrossRoads Welcome Center. Call 438-1275 by July 7, in order to register for the tour.

EASTERN MENNONITE SCHOOL is in the search process for a Director of Development. This person will nurture community relationships and provide supervisory leadership for the fundraising, admissions, communications, and marketing staff. Desirable candidates will value church relationships, are successful fundraisers, enjoy youth, create positive first impressions, are energetic, optimistic, encouraging, and articulate in spoken and written language. The successful candidate will share a passion for Anabaptist-Mennonite education in a Christ-centered academic environment and be available to begin employment between August 2006 and July 2007. TAKE THE DEO CHALLENGE. DEO (Discipleship, Encounter, Outreach) is still looking for young adults (ages 18-30) who are ready to experience an intimate encounter with Jesus. Participants spend 2 months developing their faith before serving in community-based organizations in Phoenix & Denver.
