Welcome to all who join us for worship today. May you experience God’s peace and joy as we worship and fellowship together. If you are a visitor with us, we invite you to fill out a visitor card found on the back of the pew so that we may know you better. Please place the visitor card in the offering basket or hand it to one of the ushers.

VESPERS AT THE CROSSROADS AMPHITHEATER: Experience serenity on Sunday evenings in a lovely woodland setting with music & meditations to inspire you! Services are every week in August, 7—7:45 p.m. Karen Moshier-Shenk, a church musician, will lead a hymn sing on August 13. Then, experience music by cellist Ed Gant & meditation by storyteller Millard Showalter on August 20. The final night for Vespers, August 27, will feature music by dulcimer player Dave Landes & meditation by retired Brethren leader Earl Fike. THERE WILL BE A RECEPTION held at Shady Oaks at Weavers Mennonite Church on August 13 at 4 p.m. Come experience authentic southern gumbo & chat with Melissa Wenger, who is working in Poarch, Alabama with VMBM. Her parents, Robert & Lois, who will have just returned from Jamaica, will also be there. REUNION OF CPS: CrossRoads is sponsoring a reunion of World War II-era Civilian Public Service workers on Thursday, August 17, 1—7 p.m, at Park View Mennonite Church. BEGIN PLANNING FOR THE JRMYF RETREAT NOW! Due to some unexpected changes, the Jr. High Retreat brochure will be mailed out later than usual. The registration deadline will be only a few weeks later on September 5. Please let your kids know! The retreat dates will be September 30—October 1. We will meet at Smith Mountain Lake 4-H center from noon Saturday until noon Sunday. Cost will be $55 per person. THE CHUCK WAGON GANG will perform at the EMHS Auditorium on Sunday, August 27 at 3 p.m. Tickets are $13 for artist's circle seats, $11 for general admission, and $2 extra at the door. Children under 12 get in free. This concert will benefit the VMRC Auxiliary. DURING VMC ASSEMBLY many of you prayed for Avia Aiken, 10-year-old daughter of Liston & Juline Aiken, Jamaica Mennonite Church leaders. Avia was hospitalized first in RMH & then in UVA until July 13 & flew to Jamaica on July 15. When she arrived in Kingston, she was hospitalized again for a week. A report from Juline says, “She is doing much better now, needs lots of rest. Thank you all so much for your love, care & prayers. Much appreciated.” From VMBM, we also say thank you. RIDE FOR FITNESS & CHARITY! Join Bike Shenandoah on Saturday, September 23, get sponsors for your ride, & benefit four service agencies: Roberta Webb Child Care Center, Mennonite Media, MCC, & Virginia Mennonite Board of Missions. Begin & end at Eastern Mennonite High School, enjoy a free dinner to celebrate, & know that your exercise has supported worthy organizations. For registration, go to www.bikeshenandoah.org. PRAY FOR PEACE IN THE MIDDLE EAST. Mike & Ginny Hostetler & their children, Stefan & Sofia, have served at Nazareth Village in Israel with Mennonite Church Canada Witness & Mennonite Mission Network. They report that their friends in Nazareth & the Galilee region were affected by the hostilities in the Middle East during the past nine days. Mike & Ginny write: “The most urgent thing you can do is to pray for the people in the entire Middle East region, as many are suffering because of the actions of those who are fighting. We have been in touch with our friends in Israel & have assured them that they are not forgotten by their North American brothers & sisters in Christ. Please join us in praying for God’s peace to come to the hearts, homes, communities, & countries of the Middle East. A PRAYER MINISTRY TEAM, led by Angie Williams, will be going to Long Beach, MS, August 28–September 5. Expenses include: food, overnight dormitory-style lodging, gas for trip down & back (divided among team members), & spending cash. If you wish to serve on the Prayer Ministry Team, talk with Angie (434-0312), and go to www.stevewingfield.org to indicate your willingness to volunteer. PRAY WHILE YOU BAKE! If you had been without an oven for nearly a year, what would you want most? Probably home baked goodies. That’s why we need you to fire up your oven & help us bless the people of Long Beach, Mississippi, with some wonderful Shenandoah Valley hospitality. Beachfest 2006 over the Labor Day weekend will be a time of spiritual renewal, featuring Gospel messages by Evangelist Steve Wingfield & Christian artists Randy Travis, Ricky Skaggs, Nicole C. Mullen, Jars of Clay, professional skateboarders, & Psalty & Friends. We will distribute cookies along with invitations to Beachfest as we share the love of Jesus door-to-door. Any questions? Contact Angie Williams at angie.williams@juno.com. BOOKS ABROAD & AT HOME through Mennonite Mission Network provides a mission opportunity for you! Many overseas schools, churches, & pastors are dependent on used books for Bible study & reading English. Books Abroad receives donated books, such as Bibles, Bible study helps, concordances, commentaries, dictionaries, & Christian living resources, & sends them abroad. Please consider donating good used books or postage money to Books Abroad. For more information, pick up a brochure at Zion or contact the church office.
