Virginia Conference, Mennonite Church USA

THE CROSSROADS ANNUAL DINNER MEETING will be held at 6 p.m. on February 2 at First Church of the Brethren. Tickets are $15, with registration required by calling 438-1275. The program will include inspiring music & an address by Steve Watson, a religion & philosophy professor at Bridgewater College.


A POSITIVE PARENTING CLASS led by Harvey Yoder will begin on January 29 and continue each Monday through Friday. The class will be from 7—8:30 p.m. at Family Life Resource Center. Cost is $35/person or $60 for two persons from the same household, plus $13 for the text, Common Sense Parenting. Register at 434-8450 or services@flrc.org.


HUNT FAMILY FIDDLERS will perform on Saturday, February 3, at 6 p.m. in the EMS auditorium. An offering will be collected to benefit Virginia Mennonite Board of Missions' ministries.


UPDATE ON WHSV-TV RELEASE. Mennonite Media received incorrect information regarding the broadcast of “Fierce Goodbye: Living in the Shadow of Suicide” on WHSV-TV. It will now air February 3 at 7 p.m. The program, produced by Mennonite Media, shares inspiring family stories of survival after suicide, as well as insights from theologians & mental health specialists, including a number of Mennonites.


LEGACY FIVE… Eastern Mennonite School Alumni Association presents this Southern Gospel favorite on February 4 at 3 p.m. in the EMS auditorium. Tickets (artist circle: $16 in advance/$18 at the door; other reserved seating: $14 in advance/$16 at the door; general admission: $10 in advance/$12 at the door) are on sale at EMHS, Red Front Supermarket, and Family Christian Bookstores. COME TO THE CELEBRATION OF MISSIONS DINNER and program sponsored by Virginia Mennonite Board of Missions and held at Park View Mennonite Church on February 8 at 6:30 p.m. Dinner, music, activities for children, and stories of how Good News is being spread will inspire and energize all who attend. GREAT MUSIC BY LOCAL MENNONITE PERFORMERS! You are invited to Park View at 8 p.m. on February 16 to enjoy great music from: DAPHNA CREEK (traditional gospel & bluegrass), CANTORÉ (a 10-person men’s a cappella ensemble), & FINELY TUNED (a women’s a cappella quartet). There is no charge for admission; however, an offering will be received to support Mennofolk, a Mennonite folk music festival sponsored by VMC.


MCC’S ANNUAL TURKEY CANNING FOR 2007 will be February 26—March 2 at the Mennonite Relief Center. Help is needed each day from 5 a.m. until 11 p.m. (and especially in the early morning hours). Specific dates to note: Virginia Mennonite Conference is responsible to provide help on Tuesday, February 27, while Friday, March 2 will be a community day. Funds are needed to purchase turkey for processing and for the ongoing operation of the Relief Center. If you would like to contribute to this project you can send a donation to: Mennonite Relief Center, PO Box 519, Dayton, VA 22821, earmarked for the meat-canning project. If you have any questions pertaining to this project you can contact Leon Rhodes at 867-9751 or Gerald Knicely at 879-2077. Thanks for your participation in this effort to feed the less fortunate in the world!


HIGHLAND RETREAT will hold its Annual Auction, which benefits the youth camp summer program, on March 3. If you can contribute new or slightly used merchandise, theme baskets, baked goods, gift certificates, collectables, or other valuable items, please call 852-3226.


MARK YOUR CALENDARS! Mennonite Mutual Aid is holding Stewardship University at Harrisonburg Mennonite Church on Saturday, March 10. Education courses will be offered in the following areas: personal budgeting, retirement planning, family, relationships, personal stewardship, business: MEDA sponsorship. MCC’S SERVING AND LEARNING TOGETHER (SALT) is an 11-month program for Christians, ages 18 to 27, interested in a cross-cultural service experience. The primary goal is a personal transformation & learning in hope of sowing seeds for future transformation of our own society & of global relationships.
