Virginia Conference, Mennonite Church USA

SHEKINAH, a local female a cappella group, will present their spring concert on April 21 at 7 p.m. in EMU's Martin Chapel. All are welcome; a freewill offering will be taken.


EVERYONE IS INVITED to a carry-in meal & appreciation service for the commissioning of Paul & Evelyn Kratz on April 22 at Mt. Clinton Mennonite Church. The meal will begin at 5 p.m, with soup provided. Please bring bread, salad, or dessert. For more information, call 833-4753.


REGISTRATION FOR VMC ASSEMBLY: Registration for Virginia Mennonite Conference Assembly is now open on-line (www.vmconf.org). To receive a paper copy, contact your church office. The theme this year is "Our Christ-centered Faith," and the Assembly will be held at Lenoir-Rhyne College in Hickory, North Carolina, July 26—28.


VMRC MEETING: The annual meeting of VMRC Auxiliary will be May 17 at 7:00 p.m. in Detweiler auditorium on VMRC Campus.


“COUPLES NIGHT OUT,” hosted by FLRC will be at 6:30 on May 19 at Simple Pleasures in Harrisonburg. Gerald & Marlene Kaufman, family therapists & authors of Monday Marriage from Lancaster, PA, will be speaking. The recommended donation is $40/person. Register by calling 434-8450.


ANOTHER POSITIVE PARENTING CLASS series led by Harvey Yoder will be held at Family Life Resource Center on five consecutive Tuesday evenings, 7-8:30 p.m, starting May 1. Cost is $35/person or $60/two persons from the same household. A text, “Common Sense Parenting,” is available for $13. Register at 434-8450 or services@flrc.org.


CHINA SUMMER ENGLISH COURSE: A Christian church in central China has invited VMBM to send a team of eight teachers to their church in July 2007. Ken Horst has organized a Partners in Mission team, with Elwood Yoder & June Lantz as team leaders. The team still has openings for two additional members. Team members will use prepared materials to teach English at the Nanchong Church to Chinese students. Mennonite Partners in China is organizing trip details. Young adults are encouraged to inquire, although anyone interested in this unique ministry opportunity in China from July 9 to August 1, should contact Elwood Yoder (elyoder@aol.com), Ken Horst (ken.horst@vmbm.org), or June Lantz (908-6662).


EMHS FLAMES GOLF BENEFIT will be May 4 at Heritage Oaks Golf Course with flights at 8 a.m. & 1 p.m. Join us for fun & fellowship in support of the Alumni Association & the Athletic Departments. EMU IS LOOKING FOR HOST FAMILIES for high school & college-age international students studying at the Intensive English Program for a few weeks in the summer. This is an excellent chance to not only experience a bit of another culture in your own home, but also be paid to do so! If you have any interest, contact Sarah Huffman at 432-4059 as soon as possible.
