    • Our church: thank God for good things that happened in San Jose for Zion members & MYF and for safety in travel.

    • Our community:pray for the Showalter family in their loss of 4 members this last month in a farm accident.

    • The world: ask God to grant Aaron Kauffman wisdom & inspiration as he begins teaching a missions class on Saturdays at the Arise & Shine Missions Institute in La Mesa, Colombia.

WHAT IS PENNY POWER? Penny Power is a fun & easy way to raise money for Mennonite Central Committee and Virginia Mennonite Board of Missions. Just drop your coins in the water jug container on the table in the foyer before the Virginia Mennonite Relief Sale in October. For more information, contact the church office at 896-7577.


VESPER SERVICES: Experience the serenity of evenings in a lovely woodland setting with music and a meditation to inspire you! The services, held each Sunday evening in July & August, run from 7:00 to 7:45 p.m. On July 15, Anthony VanPelt & Cathy Chupp will lead worship through music and Mennonite pastor Wayne North will lead meditation. July 22 will feature a Taize service of music, scripture, & prayer led by Monica & Matt Carlson of Harrisonburg Mennonite Church. In case of rain, we will meet in the Whitmer School.


REGISTRATION FOR VMC ASSEMBLY: Registration for Virginia Mennonite Conference Assembly is now open on-line (www.vmconf.org). To receive a paper copy, contact your church office. The theme this year is "Our Christ-centered Faith," and the Assembly will be held at Lenoir-Rhyne College in Hickory, North Carolina, July 26—28.


SUMMER ART FUN will be at Eastern Mennonite High School for both children and adults to enjoy! Middle-school-aged children will be introduced to pottery & the dark room on July 16-19 and adults will be silk painting on Tuesdays in July from 7-9 p.m. Classes are taught by Barbara Gautcher, artist & EMHS art teacher, certified K-12, and member of OASIS gallery. THE TEARS AND ASHES BUS TOUR sponsored by CrossRoads on July 21 will feature Civil War battlefields in the Cross Keys, Port Republic, & New Hope areas. The tour will begin at 8 a.m. and end at 4 p.m. at Mill Creek Church of the Brethren. Accompanying guides Dave Rodes & Norman Wenger—compilers of the Unionists and the Civil War Experience in the Shenandoah Valley book series—will be Murphy Wood, an authority on these battlefields. The $60 fee includes a lunch by youth of the Mill Creek Church and a tour booklet. Please call 438-1275 to register by July 16. The tour will also include places of importance to Brethren and Mennonites.


PLEASE NOTE that the next Relief Sale meeting will be at 7:30 p.m. on August 13 at Harrisonburg Mennonite Church.


ALL SHENANDOAH VALLEY YOUTH are invited to a time of worship at the CrossRoads amphitheater on Sunday, August 12, beginning at 7 p.m. Luke Hartman, assistant basketball coach at Harrisonburg High School and professor at Eastern Mennonite University, will be the featured speaker. Worship for the evening will be coordinated by Caitlin Helmuth. Ice cream will be served after the service. Bring a blanket or lawn chair.

LINDALE CHILD CARE PROGRAM, an outreach of Lindale Mennonite Church, is now hiring for Office Manager. This immediate opening has flexible 10-12 hours per week with the following responsibilities: general office duties; preparing annual & monthly budgets, managing finances, reports to LCCP Board on all relevant program activity; assisting Director with maintaining compliance with licensing, exemption, and accreditation standards; helping Director establish communication and maintain liaison with parents of students enrolled. Candidate must be organized and efficient with the ability to give attention to detail; general office experience is desired. MCC SKYLINE BENEFIT RIDE. Every two years, an MCC ride is planned on the East Coast to benefit MCC. This year’s ride is August 5-9 along the Skyline Drive. Proceeds from this ride will benefit MCC’s work for peace, including walking alongside the Anabaptist churches in Colombia in the midst of a four-decades long conflict.
